On Thursday, October 1, Firemen Paul Kempf, Dave Parr, and Todd Payton from the Dodge Volunteer Fire Department visited Howells-Dodge Elementary School in Dodge. The 7th grade Nebraska History class recently completed a project of building covered wagons. They built their covered wagons out of tongue depressers, hot glue, and wire. The covered wagons were judged by the teachers. The winners were Cassie Pieper, Jayda Bazata, and Cara Dvorak.
Mrs. Brenda Hegemann’s 5th grade class and Mrs. Jennifer Schmidt’s 6th grade class of Howells-Dodge Consolidated School recently attended Conservation Day at Summit Lake Recreation Area southwest of Tekamah, Nebraska. This event is planned by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Nebraska Game & Parks Commission, and the Papio-Missouri River NRD. Our Economics class is going to participate in the H&R Block Budget Challenge from Sept. 24 - Dec. 3. Students will have to budget money, pay bills, and save for retirement in this simulation game. Points are awarded for making good choices with their money and they will also take quizzes that will count toward their final score. The top 22 participants in the simulation from across the country will be awarded a $20,000 scholarship to the college of their choice.
