Driver's Education Sign Up

Driver's Education will be starting soon.  To be eligible to take driver's education, a student must meet the following requirements:

The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles requires that:

1.  If your home address is less than 1.5 miles away from school, you cannot take driver's ed until you are 15 years of age and have a Nebraska Learner's Permit to Drive (LPD).

2.  Students who plan to drive to school on a school permit must live 1.5 miles or more from school.  Students can take the driver's education class at the age of 13 without a School Learner's Permit if they are planning on getting a school permit, once they turn 14 then you must get your school learner's permit.  If you are 14 years of age and will be driving to school with a school permit you must have a school learner's permit or a school permit when taking driver's education in order to do the driving.

Students who are interested in taking Driver's Education should sign up in the Howells office by Thursday, March 10th.  The course will be taught in the months of March, April, May, and if needed June.  The cost is $235.  Please note, this course is not a defensive driving course and some insurance companies are not giving the "driver training discount" for taking it.  Check with your individual insurance company to see if this is the case.

More information will be sent to the parents of eligible students who sign-up.
