Senior Parent Information
In this article senior parents will find some of the information handed out to the seniors.
Seniors were told about the need for them and their parents/guardians to BOTH acquire a PIN (Personal Identification Number) for the completion of the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Request your PIN at pin.ed.gov The PIN will serve as your electronic signature for the FAFSA form. Do not pay to have the FAFSA form completed. You may access the FAFSA form at fafsa.ed.gov. Income tax information is needed to complete the FAFSA and you may not file the FAFSA until after January 1st. You will receive you SAR (Student Aid Report) electronically and you must remove pop-up blockers or else you can not upload to scholarship applications, in particular the Buffett Scholarship.
If a student qualifies for a Pell Grant and they attend UN-O, UN-K or UN-L they will qualify for Collegebound Nebraska which is a tuition assistance program, but the FAFSA must be completed by April 1st. State colleges of Chadron, Wayne and Peru offer the Advantage program for Pell eligible students.
Note the Buffett Scholarship is available online at www.buffettscholarships.org beginning November 1st with a deadline of February 1st. This scholarship requires a Student Aid Report which is due March 15th. A SAR will be sent electronically by the federal government after the FAFSA form has been processed.
Seniors were informed of the admission deadline for the university system and which email account to use in applying for admission. They were also told the requirements for admission to the university system.
Along with this information, the seniors are informed about scholarships, representatives arrival dates & times along with other important information as the information arrives in my office. An excellent source of free college planning services, need based scholarship programs, and grants is the EducaitonQuest Foundation. Their website is www.EducationQuest.org Also at this site is the College Fund Estimator which will provide a general idea of the amount of aid possible for a particular student.
