Firefighters and Smokey the Bear Visit Howells-Dodge Consolidated Elementary

On Thursday, October 1, Firemen Paul Kempf, Dave Parr, and Todd Payton from the Dodge Volunteer Fire Department visited Howells-Dodge Elementary School in Dodge. Smokey the Bear also accompanied the firefighters to school to kick off Fire Prevention Week, which is next week.

Paul Kempf talked with the students about proper fire prevention measures and what to do and expect in case of a fire. Fireman Todd was dressed in fire-fighting gear and was hooked up oxygen so the students could see and hear what firefighters would look like and sound like if there was a fire at their home. They stressed to the students that firemen are dressed in this gear for protection and that they are there to help them!

At the end of the program, the students all had an opportunity to shake Smokey the Bear's hand. The students were presented with very valuable information that will be useful for them for the rest of their lives. Thank you to these men for sharing this information with us!
