FCCLA Members Attend District Leadership Conference

Fifty-three members of the Howells-Dodge FCCLA Chapter attended the District 5 Leadership Conference held at Central Community College in Columbus on Thursday, October 12.  East Butler began registration at 9:00 a.m. and donuts and juice were served by the Leigh-Clarkson and High Plains Chapters.  District T-Shirts were passed out by Howells-Dodge.  A welcome was given by Jennifer Wurdeman of CCC.  The meeting was opened by Trinity Young of Humphrey.  Jennifer Knopp led the Pledge of Allegiance.  Brooke Groth of Boone Central led the chapter roll call. 

 

Installed as District Officers by the Humphrey FCCLA Chapter were:  President – Trinity Young of Humphrey, Vice President – Hailey Osantowski of St. Edward Sr., Secretary – Brooke Groth of Boone Central, Vice President of Competitive Events – Olivia Bohac of East Butler, Vice President of Public Relations – Jordyn Brester of Howells-Dodge, Vice President of Special Events – Jennifer Knopp of David City, Vice President of Outreach – Taylor Larson of Leigh-Clarkson, Vice President of DLC Awards – Gage Gasper of St. Edward, Vice president of DLC Awards – Hannah Hiett of High Plains.  District Adviser is Sandy Bongers of East Butler.

 

Keynote Speakers were Mark and Joni Adler of Ralston who gave a presentation called “Reid’s Story” that chronicled their family experience with teenage suicide.   A session on “Sexting, Bullying and On-line Crime” was presented by Tim Malm.  Kay Taylor, a Dietician from Columbus, gave a session on “Eating for Endurance” and lunch was served by CCC.

 

Afternoon rotational sessions included: “Answering the Question” by Sarah Begay of Doane College, “Careers” by Dave McKown, “Financial Fitness” by Tim Howard of Bank of the Valley, ‘Resumes 101” by Jlil Goedeken of Platte Valley Extension, “Identity Theft” by Sydney Erickson of the Career Leader Team, “Healthy Eating” by Kaitlin Fleetwood of the Community Leader Team and “Immunizations” by the Columbus Pediatric Clinic and “Leadership Essentials : by William Wilton, State Vice President.

 

Creed Speaking Winners were:  Sr. Division - 1.  Holly Tomcak of Howells-Dodge, 2.  Josie Cudabeck of David City, 3.  Erin Prusa of Howells-Dodge.  Lane Hegemann of Howells-Dodge was also a ribbon winner.  Jr. Division – 1.  Cassie Pieper of Howells-Dodge, 2.  Riley Pokorny of Howells-Dodge, 3.  Lexie Brester of Howells-Dodge.  In the poster contest, Tonya Brester and Jordon Brichacek placed second in the Conference Theme Category – “Get Groovy With FCCLA.

 

Door prizes were awarded at the close of the afternoon in the gym.
