Howells-Dodge FFA Excels at State FFA Convention

FFA members of the Howells-Dodge Chapter were very busy at this year’s 90th Nebraska FFA state convention. The convention was held from April 4th-6th  in Lincoln, NE. Students represented HDC in a number of events.  Jadyn Burenheide garnered a third place finish in the Cooperative Speaking Event.  She was awarded the 3rd place medal along with a cash award.  Lexi Brester pulled into the finals round in FFA Creed Speaking and eventually earned the 4th  place medal.  The Ag Demonstration team was selected as the 5th best team in the state while demonstrating on the topic of performing a D.O.T. Truck Inspection. Those competing for the Ag Demonstration Team included Seth Cech, Brad Kratochvil and Kade Hegemann.

Two FFA members represented our school in the Proficiency Award Area, which rewards students based on their SAE’s (Supervised Agriculture Experiences).  Katelyn Steffensmeier took home top honors in the Nursery Operations Proficiency area while Seth Cech claimed a third place plaque in the Swine Production Proficiency Area.  Both will receive cash awards along with their awards presented that day.

In the Career Development Activities members also had an impressive showing testing their knowledge against other members from across the state.  The AgriScience team made up of Janessa Schmidt, Lexie Brester, Audrey Coufal and Jadyn Burenheide took home a seventh place finish in a field of 106 teams.  The welding team finished eleventh out of 60 teams.  Team members included Jon Yosten (MIG), Jon Garcia (ARC), and Wyatt Hegemann (O/A).

Additionally, Miles Kulhanek, Lindsey Pickhinke and Katelyn Steffensmeier were awarded their State FFA Degree.  This degree is the highest honor the Nebraska State FFA Association can bestow among their members.  Hailey Coufal (past Howells-Dodge FFA member) also completed her year of service as a Nebraska State FFA Officer with the election of the new officer team.
