FCCLA members attend District Leadership Conference

FCCLA members attended District 5 Leadership Conference

 

The District 5 FCCLA Leadership Conference was held on Monday, October 14 at CCC in Columbus.  FCCLA members from Boone Central, Leigh-Clarkson, David City, East Butler, High Plains, Howells-Dodge, Humphrey, Madison, Schuyler, St. Edward, and Twin River were in attendance. 

 

Installed as District 5 Officers were:  President – Hannah Hiett, High Plains; Vice President – Cheyenne Ruhnke;  Boone Central; Secretary – Bailey Lemburg, Leigh-Clarkson;  Vice President of Competitive Events – Addie Sullivan, East Butler; Vice President of DLC Awards – Madyson Cech, Howells-Dodge; Vice President of Outreach – Emma Olson, St. Edward; Vice President of Public Relations, Whitney Smith, Twin River; Vice President of Special Events, Kathryn Tzunux, Schuyler; and Historian – Jaymee Lee, David City. The District 5 Adviser is Megan Hillen of Leigh-Clarkson.  Schuyler was in charge of the installation ceremony and presented a rose to each officer.

 

            The Conference was opened with a welcome from CCC. The business meeting was called to Order by Hannah Hiet, District President.  The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Cheyenne Ruhnke of Boone Central.  Roll Call and the minutes were read by Bailey Lemburg of Leigh-Clarkson.  Greetings were given by State Officer Alexis Cherry, State FCCLA Secretary; Irelynd Pearson, Vice President of Public Relations; Conner Oberhauser – State Peer Officer Team Council Coordinator and Rebekka Jay – SPOT Community Leader Team Vice Chairperson.

 

            The keynote speaker was Dr. Ferial Pearson, who spoke about “Secret Kindness Agents”.

FCCLA members then rotated through lunch, a session on Vaping by the East Central Health District, and a yoga session.

 

            Afternoon breakout sessions  were:  “Safe Sleep/SIDS” by Columbus Community Hospital, “Safe Food for Everybody” by Ann Fenton, “Be An Out of This World Leader” by Joan Ruskamp of CommonGound, “Positioning Yourself for College Scholarships” by Education Quest, “End the Stigma” by Conner Oberhauser, “Running for Higher Office” by Alexis Cherry, “FCCLA Trivia” by Irelynd Pearson, “SPOT and Student Body” by Rebekka Jay, Refurbishing Furniture by Jared Severson, “Distracted Driving” by Bruce Okamoto of the Nebraska State Patrol, and “Bystander Intervention” by Revolution.

 

            Awards for the Poster Contest were presented by Madyson Cech.  Howells-Dodge received 1st Place and 2nd Place in the Promoting FCCLA category and 1st Place in the National FCCLA Programs category.

 

            In the Creed Speaking Contest, Blair Fiala received 1st Place and a purple ribbon and Carly Bayer received a purple ribbon in the Junior division.  In the Senior division, Brooklyn Macholan earned 2nd Place and a purple ribbon.  Ashlynn Throener and Harley Williams also received purple ribbons.  A door prize drawing was held and the closing  was led by the District 5 Officers.
