Four Howells-Dodge Students Receive Nebraska Young Artist Awards
In December, the juniors in the Howells-Dodge art classes had the opportunity to apply for the Nebraska Young Artist Award through Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. This award is divided into Music, Theater Arts, Dance, and Visual Arts for juniors to apply all throughout the state with only 20 awards given out for each category. Mrs. Janke has had juniors apply for the past five years, having multiple applicants, but never any to receive the award.
This year, Howells-Dodge had eight juniors apply for the award and came out with four winners in the Visual Arts category. RJ Bayer, Abigayle Vogel, Lilly Praest, and Kennady Schmidt were all winners who received the award with some very talented pieces of work. Each student had their choice of media and was restricted on size. This year, students had different requirements which allowed them to submit their artwork online instead of sending it down. Unfortunately, these students will not be able to attend the ceremony in Lincoln as it was cancelled due to COVID.
Congrats to all the applicants and winners that applied for and received the Nebraska Young Artist Award. What a great accomplishment!
