"Respect the Rig" Program Was Presented at HDC
On Thursday, September 9, Teens in the Driver Seat brought their semi truck to Howells to educate students in grades 7- 12 about safety around big rigs. Four experienced truck drivers talked to students about different aspects of traffic safety and trucks. Students had the opportunity to get into the driver's seat of a semi truck and see for themselves how difficult it is to see what is beside or behind a truck. Teens in the Driver Seat also brought treats and items promoting traffic safety for the students.
Teens in the Driver Seat is the first peer-to-peer program for teens that focuses solely on traffic safety and addresses all major risks for this age group. Based in Texas, this program is available to students in 15 states. The Howells-Dodge FCCLA Chapter has participated in Teens in the Driver Seat and was selected as one of two schools in Nebraska to host this program in 2021.
