5 FCCLA members attend National Leadership Conference
On July 5th through July 9th, five students from Howells-Dodge traveled to Orlando, FL, to compete in their STAR events at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference. On Saturday, July 5th, members attended the opening session where they got to see Optimus Prime and learn about ways to be a better leader in their community. Then, the members attended the Nebraska State meeting later that night to discuss upcoming state events.
On Sunday, July 6th, Riley Svehla competed in her STAR event Repurpose and Redesign Level 2, where she received a bronze medal. Other members participated in RED talks and breakout sessions throughout the day and connected with other FCCLA members from other states by pin trading. Later that night, all members had the opportunity to go to Disney World and experience the “happiest place on earth”.
On Monday, July 7th, Kenadie Throener, Andre Martin, and Jose Arita-Segovia competed in their STAR event Chapter in Review Display Level 3, where they received a silver medal. Kylie Brichacek also participated in her STAR event Chapter in Review Display Level 3, where she also received a silver medal. After these members competed, they went to explore the FCCLA Expo, where they connected with professionals in other FCS organizations, a variety of colleges and universities, and other businesses. Later that day, FCCLA members and Advisor Payje Rayback did some exploring in Orlando and found Wonder Works, which is an attraction that features scientific exhibits and illusions.
On Tuesday, July 8th, members enjoyed swimming at the hotel and relaxing from the past busy days. Later that night, members had the opportunity to visit Universal Studios and ride rides. There was also a period of time when the park was closed down just for FCCLA members, and there was a whole sea of red at Universal Studios. On Wednesday, July 9th, members returned to Howells with more ideas on what our chapter should complete this upcoming school year and more leadership skills.
