Cyclones secure win against Slammers
The Highway 91 Cyclones traveled to Stromsburg on Thursday, August 21, to take on the Polk County Slammers. The Cyclones defeated the Slammers 18-12 for their season opener. They scored 18 runs out of 23 hits and had only 3 errors in the entire game. Freshman Dani Dirkschneider was a courtesy runner for Matelyn Rayback and scored 3 runs in the entire game. Sophomore Brittney Faltys was a beast at the plate and had 4 hits, 1 double, and 5 RBIs during the game. Junior Allie Dirkschneider was unstoppable at the plate and had 4 hits, 2 doubles, and 4 RBIs.
The team calculated a total of 7 stolen bases. Brittney and Dani each had 1 stolen base. Junior Reann Bruhn had 4 stolen bases. Allie and Brittney both had a perfect fielding percentage at 1.000. Allie had 1 assist, and Brittney had 1 assist along with 6 putouts. The Cyclones team's total fielding percentage for the game was .903.
Allie Dirkschneider had this to say about the game. "We had a fun time playing Polk County. We finally came together as a team and showed that we could really play. We wanted to change people's views on our softball team, and on Thursday night, I think we did that. After that game, I'm really looking forward to what else we can do this season."
The Highway 91 Cyclones will host Boone Central in Leigh on August 25th. They will then travel to Pierce on Thursday, August 26th, to take on the Bluejays. On Saturday, August 30th, the Cyclones will travel to Wisner to compete in the NEN tournament.
