FCCLA members win honors at National Leadership Conference

Nine members of the Howells-Dodge FCCLA Chapter represented Nebraska at the 2017 National FCCLA Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN July 1 – 6.  This year’s conference theme was “Unlimited Possibilities” and conference activities were held at the Music City Center.  Carter Bracht, National Vice President of Finance, along with the other National Executive Council members, planned and conducted this year’s conference.  Carter is also serving on the National FCCLA Board of Directors.

The Howells-Dodge Chapter had the honor of winning the National Runner-up Award in Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety.  The chapter’s project focused on promoting seat belt safety.  2016-2017 President Brett Fiala accepted the plaque for the chapter during the opening session of the conference.  The chapter also received a check for $500, which was sponsored by Ford.

In the National STAR Events competition, receiving gold medals were Jordyn Brester, Katelyn Steffensmeier and Emily Wragge in the Environmental Ambassador Sr. event.   Silver medal winners were Samantha Brester and Haley Eikmeier in Advocacy Sr.  Bronze medalists were Brett Fiala, Joey Kratochvil and Ryan Molacek in Chapter in Review Sr.

While in Nashville, the members attended conference sessions and activities.  Other highlights of the conference were a Nebraska event at B.B. Kings, a trip to the Grand Ole Opry, and a concert by Dan and Shay.  Also attending were Chapter Adviser Marla Prusa, who assisted at the conference as a National Executive Council Adviser and sponsor Kevin Wragge.
