Jr. High students attend Wayne State College

On Wednesday, September 25, the Howells-Dodge junior high students traveled to Wayne State College for their version of a career day, while the Howells-Dodge high school students participated in the HWY 91 Career Day at Howells.

The junior high students started their day with a tour of Wayne State College. On their tour, they were able to see what the life of a college student may look like. They were able to see a dorm room, different classrooms, the library, and so much more. After the tour, they were able to write manuscripts with the help of some of the English professors at WSC. They then went to lunch, which some of the students stated was their favorite part of the day. Once they were done eating, the students were able to tour the new dome facility at WSC. In the dome, the students listened to one of the assistant boys’ basketball coaches at Wayne. This coach talked about how to be coachable not only in athletics but academics as well. Students were then able to play volleyball and basketball in the rec area during some of the downtime they had.

For the second part of the day, they had a session about what it means to be career-ready, and some of the things they could do now to help them in their future career.

During this session, they learned the cost of Wayne State College versus other colleges, along with how to apply for college at Wayne State.

In the last session of the day, the students were able to go to the planetarium. They watched a show called “Stars,” where they learned about how stars are made. They ended the day with some knowledge about WSC, and some even won prizes! Overall, the students were able to learn more about their future careers and what Wayne State College has to offer.
