12 FFA members qualified for state

On Thursday, January 22, 34 FFA members went to Central Community College to compete in the first round of District FFA Career Development Events. The chapter competed in seven different events and qualified a team in three! In Natural Resources, Addison Beeks placed 1st overall individually with a purple ribbon. Kylie Dostal and McKenzie Sindelar received a purple ribbon as well. Shayla Gall received a blue ribbon to help the team place 1st overall out of 14 teams. This means these four members will be competing in the Natural Resources event at the Nebraska State FFA Convention in March. The second event the chapter qualified for state in was Ag Mechanics. Garret Praest and Noah Coufal received blue ribbons, and Ethan Coufal received a red ribbon. These three members, along with Brody Throener, placed 3rd as a team out of 20 other teams.

Another event the chapter qualified in was Agronomy, with an overall 4th place finish out of 14 teams. Noah Coufal earned a purple ribbon, Garret Praest and Cooper Kreikemeier earned blue ribbons, and Dane Meyer and Cole Bayer earned red ribbons. The four members who will represent the Howells-Dodge FFA Chapter at the state level are Noah Coufal, Garret Praest, Cooper Kriekemeier, and Dane Meyer. Multiple other members competed in other events, including Floriculture, Livestock Management, Food Science, and Ag Biotechnology. The Floriculture team of Isabel Belina, Annemarie Slaughter, Kylie Dostal, and Bailey Paus received red ribbons, but unfortunately did not qualify for state as a team. Overall, Howells-Dodge FFA had a successful 1st round of Career Development Events, and they are already starting to prepare for the second round on February 16th.
