Howells-Dodge Students Explore Career Opportunities at Northeast Community College Applied Technology Day

Eight Howells-Dodge High School students recently had the opportunity to explore a variety of career and technical education programs during an exploration event held at Northeast Community College. The event allowed students to get a closer look at hands-on career opportunities and learn more about the education and training needed to pursue careers in a variety of industries.

Students could choose from three different career exploration routes: Transportation, Manufacturing, and Construction.

The Transportation Route included Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, and Truck Driving. Students visited the Weller Lab Automotive Technology area, the Diesel Building, and the Truck Driving facility. These programs provided students with a firsthand look at careers involving automobiles, diesel equipment, and commercial transportation.

The Manufacturing Route offered students the opportunity to explore Welding, Wind Energy, Electromechanical Technology, and Utility Line careers. Students experienced hands-on learning areas and learned about careers that play an important role in manufacturing, energy production, electrical systems, and infrastructure.

Students interested in the Construction Route could explore Building Construction, Electrical Construction and Control, Plumbing, HVAC, and CADD Technology. These programs introduced students to careers involved in building, electrical systems, heating and cooling, plumbing, and computer-aided design.

The event was designed to give students more than just information about potential careers. By visiting the training facilities and seeing demonstrations, students were able to experience what these programs are like and begin thinking about whether a particular career pathway might be a good fit for their interests and skills.

The experience gave students a chance to see it, experience it, and begin planning for it as they consider their education and career options after high school.
