Lady Jags scrape out a five-set win over the Yotes
Launch the media gallery 1 playerThe Jaguar volleyball team traveled to Clarkson to take on the Clarkson Coyotes on Tuesday, September 2. After the C/JV Team asserted their dominance, sweeping Clarkson in four straight sets, it was time for the varsity to take on the Yotes!
In the first set, the Lady Jags started off slow, but after tying the score at 7, they never looked back, keeping a lead on the Coyotes the rest of the way and winning the set 25-22. A strong set two for the Jags helped them stay on top of Clarkson from the start, defeating them 25-11. In set three, the Jaguars lost a close battle up until the final point, 23-25. The Coyotes carried the momentum into set four, defeating the Jags 25-21 and forcing a fifth set. Down early in the final set 4-7, the Lady Jags answered with a 6-0 run, regaining control and taking a 7-10 lead. The Jaguars stayed focused and won the set 15-11, securing the five-set victory over the Coyotes.
Senior Kylie Brichacek led the team in kills with 18 on the night, followed by senior Peyten Becker with 12, senior Audrey Brabec with 8, sophomore Tenley Ernst with 7, senior Bella Koliha with 5, and senior Isabella Wegner with 4. Sophomore Addison Heard dished out 23 assists, followed by junior Riley Svehla with 15. Behind the service line, Peyten recorded 2 aces, and Brynn Throener, Bella, Addison, and Riley each added one. As a team, the Jags served an amazing 95%! Defensively, Brynn led the team with 29 digs, followed by Peyten with 20, Riley with 14, Addison with 11, and Kylie with 10. Leading the team in blocks was Peyten, tallying 3, followed by Audrey and Bella with 2 apiece, and Kylie and Isabella with 1 each.
When asked her thoughts on the game, senior Bella said, “We never backed down, and we never gave up!”
Overall, it was a very successful night for the Jaguar Volleyball team. With the win, their record bumps up to 4-1. The Lady Jags next compete in Pender, facing Pender and TCNE next Tuesday, September 8.
