FCCLA heads to DLC
The Howells-Dodge FCCLA chapter went to Columbus Community College for the District Leadership Conference on Monday, October 13. A total of forty-eight FCCLA members attended the event, where they learned more about Family and Consumer Sciences and had the opportunity to meet new people and grow their leadership skills.
The day started off with listening to a sponsor from the Briggs and Barrett Project. The presenter talked about how they are helping save babies' lives from SIDS. The presenter showed all the members in attendance how the Owl Sock monitors babies while they sleep, and how it will send a message to the parents' phone if something has changed with the infant, such as their breathing.
Each chapter in attendance then broke off to go to their designated breakout sessions. H-D FCCLA first went to lunch and ate at the CCC cafeteria. In the second breakout session, members were able to play games with kids from different schools. The games had to do with teamwork and learning about each other. In the third breakout session, members were able to listen to a presentation from ESU 2 on how to recognize signs of human trafficking and how to be safe when using media and meeting new people. In the last breakout session, the members were able to choose which speaker they wanted to listen to. Some of the speakers members were able to listen to were 402 Tallow Co, Interior Design with Rachel Rardon, Live on Nebraska, Embarking with Counseling, and a healthy relationships session.
Lastly, all the schools met in the theater and claimed their door prizes. Howells-Dodge members who won door prizes were Brittney Faltys and Natalie Matute. Members who won their creed speaking event were also named, and Isabel Belina won 1st place in Creed Speaking Level 3. Overall, the members left learning more about FCCLA and how they can get involved in their community.
