Osceola Speech Meet

The Howells-Dodge Speech team traveled to Osceola for a meet on Friday, February 6. Each member presented their speech twice, and then they figured out whether they made the finals. Multiple individuals from the Jaguar Speech team made finals, and the team finished in 4th place overall. Some students received certificates, and others received medals for their accomplishments. The team has three more meets before the postseason. Coach Sindelar said, “The Osceola Speech Invite was a strong showing for the Jaguar team as they faced several larger schools and some tough competition. Many Jaguars were right in the mix of competing in those final rounds, which is definitely what we want to see happening.”

There were three rounds of finals in a majority of the events. Champs finals are the top, followed by Next-In finals, and then Merit finals. Results in Informative Speaking included Isabel Runner-up in Champs finals, and Annemarie, 5th in Next-In Finals. Addi B. received 3rd in the Champs finals for Extemporaneous Speaking. The results in Entertainment Speaking were Garret P. 5th in Champs finals, Allie 5th in Next-In finals, and Noah 6th in Next-In finals. In Humorous Prose, Allie received 5th in Next-In finals. The results from Poetry were Annemarie Champion in Next-In finals and Addi B. in 3rd place, also in Next-In finals. Addi B. was the Champion of Next-In finals for Program of Oral Interpretation, and Alessa received 4th place in the same final. In the Persuasive Speaking Merit finals, Isabel received 5th place, and Maddie received 6th. For Serious Prose, Alessa received 5th in Merit finals. Garret and Noah received 3rd in the Champs finals for Duet Acting, and Gabe and Jose received 2nd in the Consolation final, which is below the Merit final. The Jags hope to continue improving throughout the season and will use the tough competition to get better.
