Jaguar speech takes the District Championship

On Tuesday, March 17, the Howells-Dodge Speech team traveled to Elm Creek to compete in the C2-5 District Speech competition. Each member of the team qualified for the C2 State Speech competition with at least one event. This year, the team has nine seniors who will all travel to Kearney on Friday, March 27. Multiple other individuals will follow their lead, and the coaches are excited for what is to come. Coach Sindelar said,

“District speech 2026 will go down in the history books as an insanely successful day for the Jaguars. The coaches couldn’t be more proud.”

The top three individuals will compete in Kearney for the C2 State Speech Championships. At Elm Creek, Addi Beeks was the champion, and Alessa Gall was 3rd in Program of Oral Interpretation. In Informative Speaking, Annemarie Slaughter was the champion, and Isabel Belina was the runner-up. The Oral Interpretation of Drama team, consisting of Cooper Kreikemeier, Garret Praest, Isabel Belina, Noah Coufal, and Nathan Tomcak were the champions. Allie Dirkschneider, Gabe Martin, Isabella Wegner, Isaiah Coufal, and Jose Arita-Segovia received the runner-up finish. In Duet Acting, Garret P. and Noah were the champions, and Cooper and Isaiah were 4th.

Entertainment Speaking was successful for Howells-Dodge as well because Garret P. was the champion, and Allie was the runner-up. The Jaguars did the same thing in Persuasive Speaking, where Isabel took the champion spot, and McKenzie Sindelar took the runner-up finish. In Extemporaneous Speaking, Addi was runner-up, and Alessa was 3rd. Poetry results included Annemarie as the runner-up and Addi in 4th place. Isaiah was runner-up, and Cooper was 4th in Humorous. Shayla Gall placed 3rd, and Alessa placed 4th in Serious to help the Jaguars finish off their championship. Now, Howells-Dodge will continue to work hard at practice before they head to State!
