FCCLA Chapter Receives Awards at State Education Meeting in Kearney

The annual State FCCLA Peer Education Meeting was held in Kearney on February 22-23.  There were over 375 FCCLA members from  chapters across the state in attendance.  State Officer Candidate Carter Bracht and State FCCLA Families First Team Adviser Marla Prusa from Howells-Dodge represented Howells-Dodge at the meeting.

Sunday evening, the 2014-2015 State Officer Team presented "The Student Leadership Challenge" training for members.  On Monday, the State Peer Officer Team led the day's activities with the theme "Soar Up With Peer Education".  The day began with introductions of the current Peer Officers who gave an overview of the Families First, Financial Fitness and Student Body national programs.  Peer team finalists for 2015-16 were also recognized.  Scholarship winners were announced.  Chapter awards were presented to the following chapters:  Student Body - 1st Place - Howells-Dodge, 2nd Place - St. Edward, 3rd Place - West Point-Beemer; Families First - 1st Place - Elkhorn South, 2nd Place - Howells-Dodge, 3rd Place - St. Edward; Financial Fitness - 1st Place - St. Edward, 2nd Place - Maxwell, 3rd Place - Howells-Dodge.

Keynote speaker was Dr. Joanne Owens-Nauslar, who spoke on "Bring Out Your Inner Scout".  Other sessions included "Fund Your Dreams" presented by Sally Bernard, "Soar Up" given by the State Peer Officer Team, and "Self Defense" with demonstrations by Bennett's Taekwondo Academy.
