FCCLA Members Attend District Leadership Conference

50 members of the Howells-Dodge FCCLA Chapter attended the District 5 Leadership Conference on Monday, October 15 at Central Community College in Columbus.  Students attended from Leigh-Clarkson, Humphrey, St. Edward, Howells-Dodge, East Butler, David City, Schuyler, Boone Central, High Plains, and Twin River FCCLA Chapters.

 

The day began with donuts and juice served by the Humphrey FCCLA.  A welcome was given by Jennifer Wurdeman of CCC.  The meeting was opened by Mikayla Martensen of Humphrey.  The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Destiny Umbarger of Boone Central.  Roll call and minutes of the last meeting were provided by Lacey Cruise of St. Edward.  The Leigh-Clarkson led the Installation of District Officers.  They are:  President – Mikayla Martensen of Humphrey, Vice President – Destiny Umburger of Boone Central, Secretary – Lacie Cruise of St. Edward, Vice President of Competitive Events – Hannah Hiett of High Plains, Vice President of Public Relations – Wade Wright of East Butler, Vice President of Special Events – Erin Prusa of Howells-Dodge, Vice President of Outreach – Cassidy Hoffman of Leigh-Clarkson, Vice President of DLC Awards – Kennen Robinson of David City, Vice President of Award – Maddie Kreienhop of Twin River.

 

The keynote speaker was Sidnee Pavel, who spoke about the connection between sexting, social networking and human trafficking.  Lunch, a presentation by the Center for Survivors and a Goose Chase led by Humphrey were attended by members during the Big Breakout Sessions.

 

Afternoon Breakout Sessions included “The Dangers of Vaping” by Jamie Rodriguez of the East Central Health Department, “Fast Food Facts” by Amy Petersen, “Hands Only CPR” by Faith Regional Medical Center; “Time Management” by Jill Goedeken, “Drunk Driving and You” by Roy Cuming, “Building A Better Project” by Alexis Cherry, “STOP Jeopardy” by Hannah Hiett, “Running for Higher Office” by Yasmine Bender, “Preparing Pets for Disaster” by Jan Berry, “Financial Jeopardy” by First Nebraska Bank and “Banking in 2018” by Deanna Hanson.

 

Awards were given at the end of the conference.  Creed Speakers from Howells-Dodge were Ashlynn Throener, Kennady Schmidt and Brooklyn Macholan in the Jr. Division and Lexie Brester and Cassie Pieper in the Senior Division.  Lexie earned the 3rd place award in the Senior Division.

Door prizes were drawn and the closing ceremony followed.
