Bailey Paus

The Howells-Dodge girls' basketball team played on March 6th at 7:45 pm against the number 2 seed, Elm Creek, in the state semifinals after defeating the 3 seed, May-Hayes, 51-28. Using the momentum they built up in the first game, they used it against Elm Creek. The score leaders were freshman Brynn Throener with 12 points, junior Audrey Brabec with 8, and senior Kenadie Throener with 7. Brynn Throener was also 2 for 4 on 3’s and got them started. Free-throw percentage leaders were junior Peyten Becker 3 for 4, junior McKenzie Sindelar 2 for 3, and Audrey Brabec 2 for 4. Audrey led in offensive rebounds with 3 and defensive rebounds with 8. The team had a total of 7 rebounds and 25 defensive rebounds. Junior Kylie Brichacek and Brynn Throener both led in assists with 4. With a 44-31 lead, the girls moved on to the finals and played the Bloomfield Queen Bees.

When talking about this game, Mr. P said, “HD held D1 all-stater Kendall Cavanee to just 8 points and 2 made field goals and used a strong second quarter (outstanding Elm Creek 12-2) to pull away to advance to the state finals. Our inside game and ability to break the press were keys in this one. We scored from range, making it a lot easier on our offense.”
