FCCLA Hosts Teens In The Driver Seat Activity

The Howells-Dodge hosted a Teens in the Driver Seat Day for students in our junior and senior high during our noon hour. The chapter began by setting up a table in our Commons area that included our TDS Banner. Members gave away pencils, pens, car air fresheners, key chains, and thumb rings provided by Teens in the Driver Seat. The FCCLA Chapter also provided Fruit Snacks for all the students. T-shirts were given away, as well. In the gym,  several stations set were set up. At the first station, students had the opportunity to do an Distract-A- Match Activity while focusing on their cell phone. At the second station, students could experience the Fatal Vision goggles that simulate how vision is influenced while under the influence of alcohol. Students then could do a driving simulation while using the goggles. At the next station, students tried to shoot baskets or hit a ball with a bat using the goggles. This project was a great way to get students involved in hands-on activities that helped them see the dangers of distracted and impaired driving. Both the junior and senior high students enjoyed the project.
